It is impossible to talk about the history of rock music, or the bands that had the biggest impact in the creation of rock’s dark identity without heralding The Doors.
In 1967, “Light My Fire” shot to the top of the charts, as a little known band out of Venice, California, took music’s center stage in a time of great political and social upheaval. Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, and Robby Krieger went on to reshape the landscape of music with a sound that fused flamenco guitar, bossa nova percussion, spook house organ, and poetry.
The shooting star that was Jim Morrison unfortunately left us all too early, and in doing so, stopped what could have been. The Doors legacy and myth continued to grow over the decades. Whether it was a book, a movie, a Vh-1 television special, or a once in a lifetime reunion in 2002 at Harley Davidson’s 100th Anniversary, something always sparked a fire in the public’s imagination, and the band always found a rebirth for a new generation. In 2009 the founding members Ray Manzarek & Robby Krieger have lit a new fire using their familiar monikers; Manzarek-Krieger.
In keeping with the idea of challenging and pushing musical boundaries, the band is prepared to perform dates with a full symphony orchestra, as well as stripped down shows that will hark back to those first gigs at The Whisky A-Go-Go on the Sunset Strip.
“As we’ve gotten older, we’ve gotten better and we have a greater ability to stretch things out, improvise if you will, so that the music has the freedom that we constantly searched for as The Doors,” stated guitarist Krieger. Manzarek-Krieger offers fans of The Doors body of work an opportunity to see the originators at their musical best, and a place to celebrate this great musical legacy. You can expect to hear all the familiar hits performed with a reverence, and all the aplomb you’d expect from these great musicians to a spell bound audience.
So, get ready to “break on through” once again with Manzarek-Krieger. The times may have changed, but the message clearly remains the same.
In 2011 the band finds themselves with vocalist Dave Brock on board and will perform at their home, the world famous Whisky a Go-Go august 19th, 2011, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Doors’ final album, LA Woman.
