"LA DEE DA" on the streets

There's a flurry of rumors concerning the Whisky-Go-Go, including stories that the club is closing, will feature only mainstream rock, will become a supper club, and that the Roxy will handle the Whisky bookings in the future.  As of now, these rumors are unfounded.  What is true is that a lot of the current staff was purged, including booking person Michon, night manager Pat, several bouncers and waitress Marsha Perloff, who claims she was canned for calling the manager-to-be "an asshole."  However, said manager-to-be Louie, the owner's nephew, is not pegged as the new Whisky manager, and there is nothing definite to substantiate the idle tongues wagging round town, whose stories include that bands will have to pay full price for drinks in the future.  What is the future of the Whisky?  We'll just have to wait and see.

Speaking of the Whisky, Polyrock had a surprise when they played there last week.  The New York progressive dance band's lead guitarist quit on-stage opening night, stalking off in a prima donna temper tantrum when his foot switches wouldn't work.  In the best tradition of "the show must go on," the band fulfilled their two-night engagement.  Though the group's sound was naturally thin, Polyrock's music was quietly engaging.  Let's hope they return soon, with a new lineup.
